Today was a spectacular day for Laurel Highlands Middle School. Under the instruction of Technology Education teachers, Zach Hixson & Shaun Valente, our students competed in the 2024 Range Resources STEM challenge.
The challenge was to create a structure that would support a specified weight of 10-pounds over a span of 20”. Students were limited to 200 craft sticks, glue, & 7 weeks. Out of 11 schools and 27 teams, LHMS swept the top two spots with our two teams. Each bridge held an amazing 395 pounds each! This incredible performance allowed LH to gain two top spots 135 pounds above third place.
The first place team consisted of: Jacob Brown, Haven Harris, Andrew Irwin, Evan Lion, Lauren Radcliffe, and Amelia Sabatine.
The second place team consisted of: Bridget Distelrath, Belle Distelrath, Tate Swaney, Eli Twele, Jacob Valente, and Mallory Wisilosky.
First place team winners received $100 for each student and $1000 for the school Technology Education program. Second place team winners received $50 for each student and $750 for the school Technology Education program.
Special thanks to Range Resources & IU1 for hosting such an amazing event.
