High School Students Win Financial Competition

Students from Laurel Highlands High School won 2nd place in the school-wide 2024 WPIAL Financial Trivia Challenge. Through a combined effort from the Business, Math, Engineering, and Social Studies departments, high school students played hundreds of rounds of financial literacy trivia, from late October through early December. As a result, they secured a spot in the top three, winning a $750.00 prize for our school.

Additionally, three of our students placed in the 'Top 5' for individual play in the competition:

1st Place - Maddox McAllister, senior, $600.00 prize

2nd Place - Tyler Shuman, senior, $400.00 prize

5th Place - Ryan Revak, sophomore, $100.00 prize

From their website, "To support and strengthen financial literacy among Western Pennsylvania teens, the WPIAL and First National Bank announced the second annual WPIAL Financial Trivia Challenge, presented by First National Bank. The Financial Trivia Challenge is a fun, virtual way for students to test their financial knowledge. Participants first register and then will have 90 seconds to answer as many financial related trivia questions as possible. They can continue to improve their score by participating up to 30 times, while comparing their results with others from across the WPIAL on the leaderboard."

On January 29th, representatives from the WPIAL and First National Bank presented a check to the school. Thank you to all who participated in making this a huge success at Laurel Highlands!
