Dear Parents, Students, Staff, and Community of the Laurel Highlands School District,
Unfortunately, on 2/9/21 our high school experienced a security breach that resulted in a former LH student arriving at school and misidentifying himself as a substitute teacher, he was returned to the office and then escorted out of the building. The Pennsylvania State Police were summoned and are investigating the matter; he was questioned and the investigating officers are working with the district attorney and charges are pending. In light of this situation, the district has modified the substitute procedures for entering the building. The modified procedures include multiple levels of security identification that will assist to ensure that individuals that are not supposed to be in the building will not be permitted in the school. The new procedure was implemented immediately and will be adjusted as necessary.
Our collective goal is to ensure the safety, security, and welfare of all students and staff. We will continue to monitor all safety procedures and adjust as necessary. Thank you.
Respectfully,
Dr. Jesse T. Wallace, III
Superintendent
