Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to LaurelHighlands Middle School. Our entire faculty and staff are looking forward to another year of successful, engaging educational experiences. Our mission is to provide a “whole” child education that provides diverse educational opportunities. I encourage you to visit our Course Handbook to read more about our exciting programming opportunities. Each year, we strive to improve our ever changing program and we are proud of our successes.
We look forward to a thriving and productive school year. Our focus is to grow in all academic subjects while continuing to be the bridge between childhood and adulthood. This goal can be achieved with your continued support. We value your input and look forward to a quality working relationship to grow and guide our children.
We will strive to achieve our school district goals. The first, demonstrate an increase in academic achievement and growth district-wide through active teacher engagement. Second, ensuring all students understand the lesson through checking for understanding. Third, creating an environment of respect and rapport. Interactions are positive in nature focused on improving culture and student learning. Finally, prepare all students with the essential skills to be successful in their future, maximizing instructional opportunities.
Our doors open at 7:45 am with breakfast being served each morning. In order to maximize our instructional program, all students must be in homeroom at 8:00 am. Dismissal will begin at 3:01.
We recommend all eligible bus riders, ride the bus to and from each day. Our buses are equipped with video monitoring for your child’s safety. The bus area is located at the front of the school. Only buses are permitted in this area during drop off and pick up times. Students who are transported by car must be dropped off and picked up in the designated area located off the Hookton Avenue entrance. Please follow the designated drop-off/pick-up procedures to ensure our students' safety. These procedures are posted on our LHMS web-site www.lhsd.org.
We are looking forward to a wonderful year at LHMS. It takes a cohesive, well tuned team to be successful. Let’s make this the best year ever, by working together for our students. We want our students Thriving- every heart, every mind, every day.
